The Marvels of Mexico

It happens weekly around here.  Someone says, “I want to go somewhere tropical but NOT Mexico”.

I don’t get it.  I’ve personally been going to Mexico for almost 40 years.  Since 2005 when I opened the doors here, not a single unsavory incident has happened to any of our customers.  Not one.

I frequently travel to Mexico alone, for meetings, sight inspections, etc.  Not a single frightful incident.  As I like to tell customers “I am too old and too fat to outrun or out-fight anyone, yet I am not afraid to go to Mexico”.

That’s a logical decision for me.  We book millions of dollars in Mexican vacations every single year.  Millions.  Thousands of our customers travel safely to Mexico annually.  And back to the point, not a single incident in all these years.

Of course, part of that is where we send you, and there have certainly been times when I blacklisted certain tourist areas. But if you deal with the facts, and keep abreast of the actual events, Mexico is just as safe as any of our major local cities.

Remember we aren’t booking anywhere but tourism areas.  No Tijuana, no Juarez.  It’s Cancun, Cabo, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, and the Riviera Maya.

Mexico offers some of the spectacular experiences.  It’s not just the Caribbean, or Sea of Cortez.  Those bring their own wonderful gifts to the party.  But it’s also the heart and hospitality of the people.  It’s the natural beauty, the ancient history (Mayan ruins etc), the Mexican culture, and the “only in Mexico” opportunities.

Cenotes are huge fun for me.  First and foremost, it’s hot in Mexico, and cenote water is cold.  I absolutely love it, and anyone who knows me knew I was going to say that.  Swimming through an underground river, with the tree roots dropping down from above, it’s like you’re on a fantasy movie set, so “other-worldly”.

Mayan ruins are another amazing attraction.  Here’s an incredibly advanced civilization that was capable of engineering and building these giant pyramids, and then they just vanished.  There are a few National Geographic specials about the Mayans, you might check it out.

Then of course the marine life.  The Caribbean side of Mexico offers the second largest barrier reef in the world, the Palancar Reef.  Doug and I got our dive certifications in Mexico, from a wonderful dive shop on Cozumel.

The Sea of Cortez is the aquarium of the world.  Jacques Cousteau said that.  The richness of marine life there is unrivalled.  The San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas areas are incredibly beautiful, offer amazing food, and there’s more fun in those mountains than a barrel of monkeys.  Try the Superman zip line, my personal favorite.

The experiences Mexico can deliver to a vacation go far above an ordinary beach vacation.  Mexico is also far less ‘third world” than most of the Caribbean destinations our customers are interested in.

If you haven’t tried Mexico, give it a thought.  If you’ve only tried one area of Mexico, expand your reach.  I go to Mexico several times a year and love it each and every time.
