Are You a Port Collector?

Did you know there’s a travel term for customers whose main purpose is to visit as many ports of call as possible?  That’s right, they’re called Port Collectors.

If you aren’t a Port Collector, I am betting you know some.  They are people who love to cruise, and want to visit new ports of call on each and every sailing.

Being a Port Collector is easy.  With so many great ocean cruising brands out there, and literally hundreds of ships and itineraries, you could spend an entire lifetime collecting ports, and many people do just that.

Let’s look at Mediterranean cruises, for example.  I Googled it and got 61,500,000 results.

I can think of eleven highly recognizable brands that offer cruises from 5-25 days in the Mediterranean just off the top of my head.  There are countless smaller, lesser known brands out there as well.

In the Caribbean there are just as many, with new itineraries being announced almost daily.

We haven’t even talked about Baltic cruises, Icelandic cruises, South American, Central American, and East/West USA coast itineraries.

The one you all want to do is Alaska, right?  When you do it, be sure Sitka is on the list of ports of call.  My personal favorite.

There are amazing cruises that include ports of call in Africa, India, the Holy Land, and all along the Asian coast.

Australian, New Zealand and Tasmanian cruises are a big hit, as are French Polynesia cruise itineraries.

I almost forgot Hawaii.  Cruising is a great way to see several islands in one fell swoop.

These days, post COVID, more people are considering World Cruises than ever before.  Did you know you can get onboard a ship and literally travel the world with it three, four, even six months at a time?  You’d be amazed at the people who do this rather than move into assisted living facilities.

What about Expedition Itineraries?  Antarctica and the Arctic for instance.  Watch “Might Cruise Ships” on the Smithsonian Channel for some wonderful ideas.

The bottom line is this.  You can choose a cruise based on the brand, or you can choose a cruise based on the itinerary.  There are so many great brands to choose from, why not base your decision on your most desired ports of call and join the Port Collectors club?
